Target:
The project targets internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable households, host communities, persons with disabilities, women, children, and other at-risk populations affected by the ongoing socio-political crisis in Fako Division. Local community structures and water management committees are also key beneficiaries through capacity-building initiatives.
Objectives:
To improve access to safe and sustainable drinking water for vulnerable communities.
To reduce waterborne diseases through improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
To strengthen community resilience through capacity building and local management of water resources.
To promote inclusive participation and community ownership of WASH facilities.
Activities:
Construction and rehabilitation of motorized boreholes and water infrastructure.
Distribution of hygiene kits to vulnerable households.
Community sensitization on hygiene promotion and sanitation practices.
Training and establishment of community water management committees.
Support for income-generating activities linked to water management and sustainability.
Project Summary:
This WASH project implemented by CARITAS of the Diocese of Buea and supported by the Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (CEI) seeks to address critical water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges faced by vulnerable communities in Fako Division. Through the provision of sustainable water systems, hygiene promotion, and community capacity building, the project aims to improve public health outcomes and enhance resilience among crisis-affected populations. The initiative integrates humanitarian assistance with long-term development approaches to ensure sustainable access to safe water and improved sanitation practices beyond the project duration.
