SARDEP’s primary objective is to improve the income levels of rural populations within the Diocese of Buea through sustainable and inclusive agricultural development. The department supports rural communities in adopting agro-ecological approaches that enhance productivity and income generation. By promoting integrated and sustainable production systems, SARDEP addresses food insecurity among rural families while ensuring that agricultural practices take into account social, economic, health, and environmental considerations, thereby guaranteeing a stable and reliable food supply.

In its effort to alleviate poverty and promote self-reliance, SARDEP places strong emphasis on capacity building and farmer empowerment. The department provides training programs that strengthen the skills and knowledge of rural farmers, enabling them to improve agricultural practices and raise their living standards. SARDEP also supports the development of competitive farmers’ organizations and facilitates contractual agreements between farmers and merchants, improving access to markets, securing better prices for produce, and strengthening farmers’ position within the agricultural value chain.
