Diocese of Buea, Through Caritas, Donates Borehole and Sanitary Kits to Great Soppo Community
In a continued effort to enhance community development and improve living standards, the Diocese of Buea, through its charitable and community engagement arm, Caritas Buea, on December 31st, 2025, officially handed over a newly constructed borehole and sanitary kits to the people of Great Soppo, Buea.
The donation, made on the final day of the year, marks a significant gesture of love and solidarity from the Church to the local community. The handing-over ceremony was presided over by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Bishop Michael Bibi, accompanied by the Director of Caritas Buea and the Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Parish, Fr. Tankang Emile.
In addition to the borehole and sanitation materials—which included buckets, soap, and cleaning items—Caritas also provided a canopy and chairs to the community. These additional items will serve as income-generating tools, allowing the community to rent them out and use the proceeds to fund local initiatives and maintain the donated facilities.
To ensure sustainability and accountability, a Community Management Committee was set up during the event. The committee will be responsible for overseeing the proper use and maintenance of the borehole and sanitation resources, promoting hygiene practices, and ensuring that the project continues to benefit residents for years to come.
